Mr Barnes served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and was a retired coal miner, having worked at several coal companies in the area. After his retirement as a miner, he worked as a security officer. He was a member of the Williamsburg Baptist Church and a member and officer R.E.A.C.T. and the Jefferson County Volunteer Rescue and Recovery Team. His hobbies include race car driving and fishing. But his favorite and most enjoyable thing to do was to be Santa Claus for local schools and events.
He is preceded in death by his father, Arvil Lee Barnes, Brother Kenneth Lee Barnes and sister Deloris Smith.
Mr Barnes is survived by his wife, Jimmie Barnes of Graysville; sons, James Barnes Jr and his wife Lisa of Adamsville and Bobby Barnes Sr and his wife Liz, of West Jefferson; Daughters Sharon "Sissy"Tompkins and her husband Dave of Pelham and Vicki Nichols and her husband Mark, of Graysville; mother, Velma "Tince" Glover of Sumiton; special son, Thomas Koenig of Germany.
