Emil was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Gastonia. He retired from Kerns Trucking, enjoyed riding his motorcycle and watching Western Movies. He was a hard worker and worked until he was 76 years old.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Delores Messer Whitesides; sisters, Ann W. Bostic and Mildred W. Davidson; brothers, Robert Waldo Whitesides, Hugh Pressley Whitesides and Larry Eugene Whitesides.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Linda H. Whitesides; son, Jamie Eaker; daughters, Nova Reid, Sharon Whitesides, Angela Conner and Kimberly Rathbone and Ervin; grandchildren, Linda, Emily, Novann, Airon and Seth; great-grandchildren, Boston, Jesse and Lincoln.

Burial: Westview Gardens, Bessemer City.
