In 1925, his niece, Mahala Kiser Sutherland recalled, "Uncle Jackie was a small scrooched up man. He was a mighty good and honest man. He wore his beard cut short, was a farmer, both belonged to the Baptist Church. He died of fever. "
His grandson, Noah Sutherland, recalled:
"Grandpa Jackie was the best moral teacher I ever had. He was good and kind ... and took pains with us kids."
Had the following children:
1. Joshua - began the study of medicine ; died of Cholera while in college.
2. Rebecca - married Abednigo Kiser
3. Nancy Ann - (photo on Page 119)

4. Isaac - m Margaret "Peggy" Skeen
5. Ezekiel K. m Harriett S. Lindamoode. Served in Civil War, was a Captain in Company E, 21st Va Cavalry under Col William E. Peters. Was promoted to Major in 1864. After war he spelled his last name, Kountz, which he said was the original German spelling. He moved to Logan County, WVA; then Minnesota, Kansas, Texas. His son, Isaac N. Kountz, age 16, was killed by Comanche Indians.
