Bud and Marilyn are interred together.

The following was provided by Barbara LeClaire:
Bud Merlin Harrison, beloved son, brother, husband, father and grandfather, passed peacefully in his home on December 1, 2018. He lived with a strength and faith that served as an inspiration to all who knew him. He had a deep faith in Jesus Christ and His infinite atonement and willingly served in building the kingdom of God.

Bud was born April 15, 1928 in Los Angeles, California to Merlin Briggs and Lola Leila Harrison during the hardships associated with the great depression and WWII. He grew up in a very happy, but financially poor family. He had an older brother Jack, and an older sister Ruth and a younger sister JoAnn.

When Bud was only 13 years old, his father passed away unexpectedly the night before his 39th birthday. This event required his mother to work evenings and the children to get jobs to support the family.

He attended Garfield High School in East Los Angeles and became actively involved in gymnastics.

During his senior year, he and several of his friends joined the Navy. During boot camp in San Diego, he finished High School. Bud was put into the Medical corps and trained at the Balboa Park Hospital in San Diego. Most of his money went to his mother to help support the family.

After about a year, Bud received a mission call to Great Britain for the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. With very little money and only a 1936 Ford Coupe to show for his life’s savings, he sold the car and bought clothes and passage to Great Britain.

After his mission, he returned home on the Queen Elizabeth Steam ship and went directly to Sunday school where he met Marilyn Josephine Wilson, a non-member.

A couple weeks later, at a youth activity in the San Bernardino Mountains, in the middle of Jenks Lake, the bishop asked Marilyn if she’d like to be baptized the next week. This young returned missionary, Bud Harrison, was asked to baptize her. This singular event changed his life forever more because shortly after that, Bud asked Marilyn if she’d marry him and she said yes. Bud married Marilyn on her 17th birthday, six months before she graduated from High School. Shortly after she graduated they discovered they were expecting their first child.

Bud and Marilyn built their lives together in East Los Angeles and Yucaipa, California. They were happily married for 68 years. 60 of those years were in the home Bud built in Yucaipa. With six active children, their lives consisted of swim clubs, church activities, missions, and school performances.

Bud was interested in being an electrician’s helper so he could learn the trade. He walked into a company and asked if they needed an electrician. A man came out and asked if he knew anything about 220 or 440. He said yes thinking there would be more to the interview. The man hired him on the spot and introduced him to all the employees as their new plant electrician. Since he was in way over his head, he prayed constantly and with the Lord’s guidance he learned the trade. He spent the next 30 years as an electrician.

After sending three sons on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bud and Marilyn served a mission to the Illinois Chicago mission for the Deaf October 1986 to March 1988. He also served 14 years as an ordinance worker in the Los Angeles, California LDS Temple, 13 years in the Redlands California Temple, and was a faithful home teacher.

He leaves emptiness in our hearts and a legion of friends as he truly exemplified his title of Father, Grandfather and Friend.

Bud is survived by his children: Wayne (Terrie Wilkinson), Kathy (Rick Foster), Bud Jr. (Debi Peterson), Rebecca (Jim Fawcett), Wendy Harrison, Terry Harrison, 33 grandchildren, 90 great grandchildren, and his Sister JoAnn Wagner. He is preceded in death by his wife Marilyn Josephine Harrison, his parents Merlin Briggs

Family and friends may greet the family from 10:30 to 11:30 am at Emmerson-Bartlett Memorial Chapel on Friday, December 28 at 703 Brookside Ave, Redlands, California.

There will be a memorial service at 11 am, Saturday December 29th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 12776 6th St., Yucaipa, CA.
