Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon at two o'clock at the Arthur Baptist Church for Reuben Anderson, longtime resident of this community, with the Rev. David Brown officiating, assisted by the Rev. Wallace Larson. Organ music was supplied by Mrs. Oscar olson. Two solos were sung by Dennis Lindberg, "In the Sweet Bye and Bye", and "At Home with Christ and God." Pall bearers were Carl Hedum, Russell Edgar, Ernest Olson, Phil Warner, Frank Lindquist, and Arthur Lindsay. Interment was in the Hayes Township Cemetery.
Reuben Anderson was born on 17 January 1879 in Stockholm Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the third son of Martha K. and John Anderson, pioneer settlers who purchased the virgin land from the railroad and who were charter members of the Arthur Baptist Church. Reuben lived on his parents farm until 1907 when after the death of their father, the family moved to Chicago. On 2 July 1914 he was united in marriage to Hazel Bergman, daughter of the late Herman Bergman, who had served as pastor of the Arthur Baptist Church. Two daughters were born to this union, Ruth and Lorraine.
In the winter of 1915 Reuben was saved under the ministry of Paul Rader and he became a member of the Edgewater Baptist Church in Chicago., The family moved to Arthur in 1916, where residence has remained these forty years. Mr. Anderson was a member of the Arthur Baptist church.
He died 11 June 1956 in Arthur, Iowa at the age of 77 years, 4 months, and 25 days. He is survived by his wife, Hazel, and daughters Ruth (Mrs. Paul Caughlin) of Chicago, Illinois and Lorraine (Mrs. Bertil Lovain) of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, one brother, Charles Anderson, of Arthur, five grandchildren, Coleen Caughlin and Ruth Ann, Deborah, Timothy, and Mary Beth Lovain, also nieces and nephews.
