Services for Johnny “J.V.” Crain, 75, of Columbia, Louisiana will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the chapel of Riser Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Robertson officiating. J.V.’s final place of rest will be at the cemetery of Old Bethel where he regularly attended church.

Johnny Crain was born in Sikes, Louisiana on June 19, 1943 to the union of his parents, Lola Vaudine and Floyd Newton “Mac” Crain and he passed from this life on Sunday, November 25, 2018.

J.V. was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 49 years, Mary Crain, and his brother, Ronald Crain. He is survived by his daughter, Dee Briscoe and her husband Paul of Grayson, La, his sister, Cathy Crain and her husband Dave McAlister of Warrenton, Virginia, his grandchildren, Joshua Briscoe and his fiancé, Hannah Rider, Marcus Briscoe and his wife, Alex and his two great grandchildren, Joseph Briscoe and Brylee Briscoe all of Columbia, Louisiana.

Over the years J.V. participated in several hobbies and organizations. He loved to fish and hunt, fly airplanes, ride motorcycles and do wood working. He was a past instructor with the La. Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries Hunter Education and Bow Hunter Education and Safety for many years and taught many of the youth of our parish. He also coached the Youth Hunters Education Challenge (YHEC) team for 6 years and lead team members to the National Competition three of those years. In the past he had volunteered his time as a reserve Deputy for the Caldwell Parish Sheriff’s Department. He helped with many fundraisers including those for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. He was a past 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a past Shriner at the Barak Temple in Monroe. A prior member of Clarks Lodge #382 and Rosemary Lodge #278 and a past member and past Master of Columbia Lodge #164.

Pall Bearers will be Darron McGuffee, Mitch Bratton, Tim Burris, Todd Graham, Jake Sanders and Jerry Mobley. Honorary pall bearers will be Joe Tyler and Shannon Varnell.
