CIVIL WAR VETERAN DIED AT DAUGHTER'S HOME HERE
Henry J. Abel Native of DeKalb County and Father of Mrs. Bert Williams


Henry J. Abel, whose home was near St. Joe, passed away Monday evening at 7:35 o'clock at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Bert Williams, on Lee street in this city. He had been sick for six weeks with organic heart disease and chronic Bright's disease, with senility contributory.

Mr. Abel was a native of DeKalb county, having been born at Coburn Corners near St. Joe August 19, 1837. He was married November 14, 1858, to Eliza Shull and of seven children five survive: John and George Abel of Auburn, Merton Abel of Branch, Michigan, Herbert Abel of Coldwater, Michigan, and Mrs. Williams.

A brother of the deceased, Wallace Abel, also lives at Coburn Corners. Three sisters survive, Millie Alton of Ellenwood, Nebraska, Elmira Kimes of Kinsey, Kansas, and Alice Hart of Coburn Corners.

Mr. Abel served in the civil war and was a member of the G. A. R. post at St. Joe. He also belonged to the Christian church.

With George W. Iler as the undertaker, the funeral cortege will leave the Williams home at 7 o'clock Thursday morning and the services will be held at 11 o'clock at Coburn Corners, the Rev. Nickerson of Newville officiating. Interment will be made at Coburn Corners.
