Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 17, 2018 in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Bro. Gene Stewart and Pastor M.L. Barber officiating. Mr. Barwick will be laid to rest in the Hutcheson Family Cemetery. His family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Sammons Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be: Jim L. Barwick, Wayne Hooks, Daniel Hutcheson, Ted Logan, Billy Logan, Ernie Herndon and David Herndon.
Born in Treutlen County he was one of the three children and the eldest of the two sons born to the late Ernest Leon and Nita Hutcheson Barwick. Growing up in Soperton, Jerry graduated from Treutlen High School, Class of 1962. After high school he worked for a period of time at the J. P. Stevens Company while serving in the U. S. Army Reserves. He later attended Truck Driver School and drove for many years for Oxford Manufacturing in Vidalia. After retiring in the 1990s Jerry worked for a short time for Jennings Turf Farms near his home.
He enjoyed gardening and had attended the Zaidee Advent Christian Church for many years.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, LaFaye Barwick Moorman.
He leaves behind, his brother, Murray Barwick of Soperton, an aunt, Christine Hutcheson of Vidalia and many cousins to include Lorita Webb and Darlene Logan, both of Soperton.
