James was drafted into the US Marines after appearing before the Columbus Armed Forces draft board with his draft notice.
Upon arriving in Vietnam James was assigned to Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. James died as a result of fragmentation wounds to the body from hostile mortar fire, during Operation Prairie IV south southeast of Con Thien (158).
Survived by his parents, Milton Edward, Sr and Dorothy G Chadwick and his 2 sisters, Derinda and Phoebe all of Upper Sandusky and his brother,
Milton Earl Chadwick Jr of Springfield, Ohio.
