Alvin's Obituary

Alvin Edward Fichtner, 82 of Baxter Springs, KS passed into the Kingdom of Heaven on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at his home.

Born on March 5, 1936 in Galena, KS, Alvin was the son of Emmert Martin Fichtner and Zora Dell Ragsdale Fichtner. He graduated from Galena High School in 1955. Alvin was united in marriage to Gladys Robertson on March 15, 1957.

He was employed for Eagle Picher Industries, INC as a Project Buyer for over 45 years, retiring from EP at the age of 65. Alvin was also a well-known realtor for many years in Baxter. He began his career with R.C. Gibson Agency in the early 1960s. He joined the Kingrey Agency in 1973 for a combined total of approximately 50 years in the real estate business. He was a very hardworking and dedicated husband and father. His longtime motto was “Salesman for the Best Deal”. He loved his job as a realtor and his main passion was to show generosity and kindness to his customers, which gave him a highly respected reputation.

Alvin was a Christian man loved by many. He was a faithful member of the Assembly of God Church.

Alvin is preceded in death by his parents, his two sisters, Wanda Farris Lewis and Evadell Kirk; one brother, Mervin Fichtner.

Alvin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his wife Gladys of 61 years, his son Mark Fichtner, daughter Stacy Fichtner Daniel (and husband Tom Daniel), and one grandson Logan Daniel, all of Baxter Springs, KS. Additional survivors include one brother Keith Fichtner (and wife Kay) of Commerce, OK.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 2, 2018 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. Pastors Troy Farris and Daniel Berryhill will officiate. Burial will be in the Baxter Springs Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00-7:00 p.m., at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. Pallbearers for the services are, Mark Fichtner, Logan Daniel, Tom Daniel, Keith Fichtner, Bill Farris, and Ranny McWatters. Memorial donations may be made to Parkinson's Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800 Miami, FL 33131 or First Assembly of God Church, Baxter Springs, KS in care of the funeral home.
