Services for Estes A. Chancellor, retired chairman of the board and chief executive officer of the Greenville Avenue State Bank, will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home Chapel in Dallas. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mr. Chancellor, 94, died Sunday at Boswell Hospital in Sun City, Ariz.
The Grand Saline, Texas, native began his banking career in 1922 with the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. He was promoted to head the credit division and then made chief examiner.
In 1930, he graduated from the Jefferson School of Law and in 1942 from the Rutgers Graduate School of Banking.
Two years later, Mr. Chancellor was elected cashier of the Houston branch of the Federal Reserve Bank, where he served several months before returning to Dallas as an assistant vice president of Dallas National Bank.
As assistant vice president, Mr. Chancellor was in charge of the credit department before being promoted to vice president in 1947.
He then went to work as president of the Greenville Avenue State Bank in 1952, retiring as chairman and CEO in 1971. He lived in Sun City the last 16 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Sally De Frates of San Diego, Calif.; a son, Robert E. Chancellor of Santa Cruz, Calif.; a sister, Florence Simpson of Sun City, Ariz.; and a brother, H.C. Chancellor of Dallas.
