Florence Simpson was born in Texas, a daughter of Abraham Gilbert Chancellor and Cora Lee Thames. She had siblings Marvin Sylvester 1890–?, Ora Ardelle, Habert Clarence, Estes Abrams, Iola Wright.

Florence was a public school teacher in Van Zandt county in 1920 and living with her parents. By 1930 she was in Dallas, still a school teacher, and living with her married sister Ora Pratt.

She married Raymond "Ray" Harold Simpson sometime after his first wife died in 1938.

They lived in Scottsdale, Arizona after Ray retired from J. C. Penney.

Florence was the last remaining member of her immediate family.
