According to Louisiana WWI service records, Capt. David Isiah Garrett served with the U.S. Marine Corps in France from May 1918 to March 1919. For his service he was awarded the Fourragere from the French Army. After training in Parris Island, S.C., and Quantico, Va., David received further training in Mare Island, Ca., and Galveston, Texas, before deploying to Europe. After commissioning to 2nd Lt. in Sept. 1917 he was later promoted to 1st Lt. in Sept. 1918.
