ANCELL MACK ATKINS, son of Almon Andrew and Mary Josephine Mack Atkins, was born in Springfield, Missouri, on July 19, 1938, and departed this life February 3, 2018, surrounded by his loving family, in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of seventy-nine years.
Ancell grew up and attended school in Springfield, Missouri, graduating from Central High School, in 1956. After graduation, he attended Drury University where he received a Degree in Education with a Masters Degree in Education and Certification in Special Education and Guidance. While attending college, he was a brother of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He made friends easily and enjoyed the relationships with his classmates through the years.
On March 11, 1961, Ancell was united in marriage with the love of his life and eternal best friend, Karen Sue Tompkins, and together they shared the next fifty-six years of love, laughter and memories together. To this union was born three children, all surviving.
Ancell spent his working years giving a lifetime of service to the Lebanon School System for thirty years, in citizenship, guidance, special education and career development placement. He touched many young lives in the Lebanon Community and encouraged each of his students to strive for a successful and fulfilled life.
Although he worked very hard to provide for his family, Ancell also enjoyed a variety of hobbies. He loved to travel, take fishing trips to Canada, and camping, with his family and friends. He was also an avid Drury University Basketball fan, and attended games since 1978.
Ancell was a longtime, faithful and active member of the First Christian Church of Lebanon. He appreciated the love and prayers from his church family. He was also a member of the Laclede Lodge #83 A.F. & A.M. and Lebanon Chapter H.S., Order of Eastern Star for over fifty-years.
Those surviving include his wife Karen; one son, Ancell Mark Atkins and his wife Kathleen of Marietta, Georgia; two daughters, Mary Lenore Atkins Riggs of Booneville, Missouri and Susan Katherine Atkins Back and her husband Jeff of Kirkwood, Missouri; two grandchildren, Cameron Andrew Back and Mary Kathryn Atkins; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fred and Angie Tompkins of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; other relatives and many dear friends.
