Mary Beth "Beth" Shelton, 78, a long time Rushville resident, passed away May 9, 2016 in Rushville. She was born December 2, 1937 in Connersville to Roydon Lee & Wilma (Miller) Friend.
Beth graduated from Connersville High School in 1956. She married Tom Shelton on November 27, 1958 and he survives.
She & Tom summered at Douglas Lake, MI from 1964-1975. They began their summers at Carp Lake, MI in 1975. In her early life, her family summered in Clear Lake, MI.
Beth did administrative work many years for Schneyer & Fordice, D.O. and also for Dr. Jim Daugherty. She worked for Rush County Elementary Schools in the library and was a substitute teacher for many years. Beth enjoyed working at Snookum's Gift Shop in Mackinaw City during summers spent in that area. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Tri Kappa and enjoyed helping with the Changing Footprints program. Beth enjoyed reading, playing bridge, painting & sewing.
In addition to her husband, Tom, of Rushville, she is survived by her sons, Ted & wife Mescal Shelton of Rush County and Tim & wife Colleen Shelton of Midland, MI, grandchildren, Katie Beth Shelton & fiance Drew Bledsoe of Nashville, TN, Sam Shelton of New Palestine and Olivia & Luke Shelton of Midland, MI, great granddaughter, Hadley Beth Bledsoe.
Beth was preceded in death by her parents & a brother, Gordon Friend.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Friday, May 13, 2016 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Rushville. Pastor Jan Dimick will preside. A time of visiting will be held from 4-8 PM Thursday evening at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity, St. Paul's United Methodist Church or Changing Footprints.
