Mrs. Juanita Abernathy Allen, 84, of LaFayette, Alabama died Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Arbor Springs in Opelika, Alabama.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at 11AM at the First Baptist Church with burial to follow at the LaFayette City Cemetery. Rev. Jimmy Allen will be officiating.
Visitation will be held Tuesday at the church from 10AM until 11AM prior to the service.
Mrs. Allen was born in Chambers County, Alabama on September 28, 1934 to the late Henry Stewart Abernathy and the late Docia Gooden Abernathy. She was a graduate of LaFayette High School and started her career at the Jimmy Nichols Insurance Company. Juanita then worked for Tucker Brothers and Farmers And Merchants Bank, both in LaFayette, for over thirty years. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She was a former member of the LaFayette Pilot Club, serving as Treasurer and President, and a member of the LaFayette Bridge Club. She loved bingo, dancing, cooking and traveling. Juanita also treasured every minute spent with her loving family.
Juanita was predeceased by her husband of twenty-eight years, Henry Lamar Allen, and four siblings, Stella Pierce, Vincent Abernathy, Nellie Ruth Allen, and David Abernathy. She is survived by three children, Henry Lamar (Teresa) Allen, Jr. of Wetumpka, Don (Amy) Allen of Auburn, Lisa (Marvin) Brown of Augusta, GA; two sisters, Sara Yancey of LaFayette, and Diann (Buddy) Nix of Chattanooga, TN; six grandchildren, Henry Lamar (Alana) Allen, III, Sara (Blake) Piel, Alex (Blane) Rudd, Marvin Eugene "Trip" Brown, III, Tara Margaret Brown, Tatum (Benson) Davidson, and six great grandchildren.
Donations may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund.
