From familysearch.org: When Leon was a teenager he went to Rexburg to a dance with some friends. They got separated and they were searching all over for him. They found him by the fountain in the city park, asleep. So from then on his friends called him "Search", because they had to search for him that night. And some years later the name got changed to Surge. And that is what everyone called him at the gas station, race track, church and everywhere he went by "Surge".

From The Post Register (Idaho Falls, ID) - March 30, 1982:
Leon "Surge" Aeschbacher, 54, well known horse breeder and racer and owner of Husky Oil Company of Rigby, died March 29, 1982 of a heart attack.
He was born March 29, 1928 at Archer, to Ernest and Ruby "Jenny" Niederer Aeschbacher. He married Reva Robinson, December 3, 1954 and the marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
He attended Archer and Rexburg schools. He was past president and currently serving as director of the National Cutter Association. He was an officer in the Jefferson County Sheriff's Posse. He was a supporter of area racing and was engaged in training and promoting quarter horses.
He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association. He was a member of the LDS Church. He owned and operated the Husky Oil Company in Rigby for over 25 years.
Survivors include his widow of Rigby; children, Wesley Olsen of St. Anthony, Mrs. Keith (LaRae) Grover, Bryan Aeschbacher, Mrs. Steve (Dianna) Purser, Lynn and Craig Aeschbacher, all of Rigby; brothers and sisters, Grant, Don, and LeRoy Aeschbacher, all of Idaho Falls, Mrs. Joyce Chase of Ririe, and Mrs. Delwin (Elane) Daniels of Blackfoot; and 10 grandchildren.
