William A. Joynes, a resident of Ossining died Thursday March 11, 2004. He was born in Norfolk, VA on February 22, 1941, the son of Walter Cooper, Jr. and Mildred (Bittle) Joynes. He was 63. Bill was a graduate of Briarcliff Manor High School class of 1959 and a graduate of McAllister School of Embalming in September of 1960. Bill was a Life Member of Briarcliff Engine Co. where he served in all of the line offices. He also served as the president for five years. Bill was a member of the Briarcliff Masonic Lodge 1155 where he served as Master in the years 1981, 1991, 1992, 1993 and 2002. He was appointed the Grand Representative to the Dominican Republic in 1997. He was a member of the Mecca Temple (Shriners), Scottish Rite Valley of White Plains, Master & Warden Association, Masonic Charities Corp, Royal Arch Masons and Masonic Motorcycle Club International # 8. Bill was employed with the Briarcliff Manor Police Department for four years and transferred to the Town of Ossining Police Dept. where he served as Chief for five years before retiring on December 31, 1984. He was a member of the Westchester County and N.Y. State Police Chiefs Association and the Fraternal Order of Police Westchester Putnam Lodge #54. Bill served as a Funeral Director and Manager at several funeral homes including Beecher Funeral Home in Pleasantville, Cargain Funeral Home in Mahopac and Dorsey Funeral Home. Bill enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, riding his motorcycle, playing golf and attending Plato's luncheons with his buddies. Bill is survived by his mother, Mildred Joynes, his companion and best friend Ethel (Sandy) Ghiazza, his first wife Christine (O'Connor) Joynes. His two daughters, Kelly Ann Joynes and Jill Christine LaRocque (Brett), his brother W. Cooper Joynes III (Linda), his four grandchildren Kirsten and Braden Passler and Connor and Kamryn LaRocque, his niece April Edney and nephews W. Cooper IV and Kirk Joynes. His son William A. Jr. and granddaughter Cassidy Passler predeceased him. Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 7-9 PM and Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at St. Augustine's Church in Ossining. The Interment will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery. The Family strongly request that in lieu of Flowers, that donations be made in Bill's memory to St. Augustine School, Eagle Park, Ossining, NY 10562 would be appreciated.
