Clayton D. Stilwell, 96, of Bradley, passed away Tuesday (Dec. 30, 2014) at his home. He was born Jan. 12, 1918, in Simeon, Neb., the son of Ernest Rivers and Bertha Martin Stilwell. Clayton married Melba Richmond in 1945 at Bradley United Brethren Church. She passed away on Oct. 23, 2003. He was a mechanic for Koerner Airport and was in maintenance at Mortell's and Illinois Bell. He was involved with the Red Cross and the Kankakee Camera Club, Meals on Wheels for Riverside Medical Center, 68th Fighter Squadron, Illinois Bell Pioneers, the local Vintage Squadron and Lifetime Independent of Odd Fellows. He also was an inventor and loved working in his shop. Surviving are one daughter, Linda Stilwell, of Missouri; grandchildren, Douglas Smith and fiancee Cheri Quisido, of Bradley, Karey Smith, of Missouri, and Daniel (Jaime) Smith, of Waterloo; great-granchildren, Saddie and Oliver Kaiser-Smith, of Waterloo; and special friend, Eunice Kroll, of Kankakee. Preceding him in death were his wife; parents; three brothers; and 11 sisters. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home in Kankakee. An additional time of visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the 10 a.m. funeral services at Bradley Evangelical United Methodist Church in Bradley. The Rev. Jim Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Deselm Cemetery, Manteno. Memorials may be made to Kankakee Valley Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
