Arlene and Roger Shively were married on 19 Oct 1958 at Bayard United Methodist Church in Bayard, Columbiana, Ohio.

Arlene Mary Theresa (Enedy) Shively passed away peacefully on 16 Dec 2016 at Maryland Masonic Homes, "Bonnie Blink," in Cockeysville, MD. She was the daughter of Oscar and Gertrude (Hillman) Enedy. She was born on 11 Jun 1933 in Elmira, NY. She was raised just outside of Elmira in Big Flats on a chicken farm at the foot of Harris Hill (known for its hang gliding).

She graduated from Northside High School in Corning, NY in 1951. She went to Alfred State College in Alfred, NY and studied Floriculture, graduating in 1954. Instead of a vocation, this turned into a lifelong passion for flowers and greenery, and floral arranging, for she had a change of heart. She headed for Baltimore, MD to attend the School of Nursing at Union Memorial Hospital, which she completed in 1957. Nursing fit her personality because Arlene was kind and caring, and liked to help people.

While at nursing school, one of her classmates and good friends, Kimi Cissel and her engineer boyfriend Jim Johnson, set Arlene up on a blind date with Jim's engineer friend Roger Shively. The rest is history for both couples and they all remained lifelong friends. Being a registered nurse came in handy for Arlene when raising her and Roger's four children: David, Orbie, Karen, and Laurel. This "raising" occurred in Millersville, MD where the kids had lots of room to play and adjacent woods to explore.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roger in 2013, her parents, two brothers and their wives, two nieces, and a nephew. She was survived by her four children; six grandchildren (that she loved dearly): Adam, Alex and Lauren Shively and Rachel, Kyle and Jamie Zeigler; and her niece (who was more like a little sister) Karen Enyedy.

A memorial service was held at Bonnie Blink on 19 Dec 2016 that was followed by a reception there. These were attended by family, friends, former neighbors, and Bonnie Blink residents.

Memorials were requested to be made in her name to the MD Chapter of the Nature Conservancy in Bethesda, MD.
