Lorene Skidmore Jenkins, 92, of the Jenkins Branch community, Bryson City died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005 in a Swain County hospital.

A native of Cherokee County, she had lived most of her life in Swain County. She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Laura Sherrill Skidmore. She worked for many years as manager of the school store for the Bryson City schools. She was a member of Arlington Baptist Church and active in community affairs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Jenkins, who died in 1984, a son, Edward Jenkins, three brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are her son, R.P. Jenkins and wife Sally of Bryson City; one daughter, Laura Ellen Jenkins of Bryson City; one grandson, Jon-Mark Jenkins and wife Christan of Bryson City; one great-grandson, Jonathan Casey Jenkins of Bryson City; one sister, Hetty Burchfield of Thomasville; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21 in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul A. Travis officiated. Burial was in Jenkins Cemetery.
