Augusta M. Austin was born on 22 August 1899 in Greenville, South Carolina, the seventh of eight children of David A. Austin (1853-1909) and Emma Jane Rice Austin (1859-1914). She was married to Frank Homer Avery (1878-1967) on 23 October 1923 in Greenville county, SC. They had two sons and a daughter. By 1940 they had relocated to Atlanta, Georgia. She was widowed in 1967. She died on 16 December 1981 in Forsyth county, GA at the age of 82. She was interred at Sherwood Memorial Park and Mausoleum.
