Phil H. Abrams, age 82, passed away at his home on March 29, 2014.

He was born on Aug. 17, 1931 in Laurens, S.C., a son of the late Willie and Agnes Simpson Abrams. Phil was the youngest of seven children. He graduated from Ware Shoals High School in South Carolina in 1949 and joined the Air Force. While stationed in Rapid City, S.D., Phil met and married Sally S. Sherman in July, 1952. Returning to Columbia, S.C., he graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in accounting in June of 1958. Phil was a lifelong member of the Beta Gamma Delta Sigma, a National Business Society. Mr. Abrams was a manager with Hoechst Celenase for 31 years, retiring in 1995. Phil was especially proud of his service with the Sharon View Credit Union, serving on their Board for many years. His love for Heisey Glass also kept him busy after retirement, with frequent travel to Ohio for board meetings, fundraising and wonderful times with many dear friends. Phil was a member of Providence United Methodist Church and Christian Home Sunday School Class.

Survivors include his wife Sally Abrams, of the home, daughter Cheryl Abrams, of Charlotte, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Gene, Luke and Ed Abrams and sisters Elizabeth Balentine, Juanita McKinney and Wilma Dockham.

A service to celebrate the life of Phil Abrams will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Providence United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends in the church atrium from 11:30 until 12:15 prior to the service. Interment will be private.

The family would like to thank Dr. Peter Justice for his care and compassion; and Hospice and Palliative Care-Charlotte Region, for their care during his final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorials be made to Providence United Methodist Church, 2810 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28211, or Endowment Fund at Heisey Glass Collectors of America, Inc., 169 W.
