David Warren Brown was the fifth of eight children born to Thomas S E Brown (1841-1913) and his wife, Ruthanna W Potter Brown (1845-1920). His father was born in Philadelphia, and his mother was born in Delaware. David's father fought in the Union Army during the Civil War. He and Ruthanna married 16 May 1867 in Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware. The family moved to Gloucester, Camden County, New Jersey, between 1885 and 1900. David's father was a carriage smith (finisher). His mother was a Quaker. Both of David's parents died in New Jersey.

David served as Private and Sergeant in Company R, Volunteer Engineers during the Spanish-American War.

David was a machinist, and by 1945, was foreman of Columbus Tool Die and Machine in Columbus, Ohio.

David Warren Brown married Mary Anna Fell on 01 May 1909 in Burlington, Burlington County, New Jersey, at the Broad Street United Methodist Church. Thomas A Housemond was the Officiant, and A Gertrude Housemond was the witness.

Mary Anna died of a malignant brain tumor in Philadelphia on 09 Nov 1942. She is buried in Riverside Cemetery in Philadelphia.

On his 1942 WW II Draft Registration Card, David gave a friend, Irene Nesser, as his emergency contact. They married sometime between 1943 and 1945.

David and Irene are buried together in Union Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio.
