Judy Ann Altgelt, age 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at her home in The Woodlands, Texas.

She was born Julia Ann, on July 20, 1926, in McAllen, Texas, to Guenther William and Julia Ellen (Cox) Simon and was the youngest of five children, Bill, Tom, Mike and Jean. Her family moved to San Antonio where she graduated from Brackenridge High School.

Even though her father died when she was 6 months old, she remembered a very happy childhood filled with love and laughter while being raised by both her Mother and her favorite Aunt Sibby.

Judy played an old upright piano by ear, and was a talented artist and painter. She married Alexander Zanecchia in Montgomery, Alabama, in December, 1944. They had two children, Joseph Alexander and Linda Jean. She worked as a secretary at Kelly Air Force Base, the Atomic Energy Commission and Alcor Aviation.

This marriage dissolved and several years later she married George Altgelt, and retired to country life in Floresville, Texas, where she was able to foster her love for animals of all kinds. George and Judy moved to April Sound in Montgomery, Texas, in 2009, to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren.

Judy will be remembered for her exceptional sense of humor, patience, grace and kindness to every person and animal she encountered. She always sought out the least and the lost in an effort to uplift them. She had a deep faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Judy is survived by her cherished family, daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Neil Smith; her granddaughter and husband, Holly Amber and Matthew Smith; granddaughter, Sunny Lynn Hart; great-grandchildren, Donovan Alexander, Reese Julia, Noa Darl Ok, Liv Kalia Grace, Julia Ann and Liam Colin; and many nieces and nephews. Judy's family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Grace Residential Care and Silverado Hospice for their dedicated and loving care.

Family, friends, and others whose lives Judy touched are invited to Linda and Neil's home on September 22 from 1pm - 4pm to reminisce, grieve, support each other and, of course, just chat.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Judy can be made to the Abandoned Animal Rescue, 32632 Wright Road, Magnolia, TX 77355, or Silverado North Houston Hospice, 13810 Champion Forest Dr., #150, Houston, TX 77069.

In the care of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home.
