Mrs. Earlene (Rafus) Willard, 57, wife of John B. Willard Sr. of Ray Hill Road, died Wednesday morning at Putnam Memorial Hospital in Bennington after a lengthy illness. She was born Feb. 2, 1918 in Searsburg, daughter of Earl and Margarite (Johnson) Rafus. She graduated from Wilmington High School. Her marriage to Mr. Willard took place in Wilmington in 1934. Mrs. Willard was a member of the Wilmington Congregational Church and at the time of her death was president of its Women's Association. She was also an active member of the Mothers Club and the Parent, Teachers Club in Wilmington. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Bruce of Hardwick and John Jr. of Wilmington; a daughter, Mrs. Joanne Boyd of Shelburne Falls, Mass.; a brother, Earl Rafus Jr. of Wilmington; six grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, Aug. 24 at 12:30 p.m. at Wilmington Congregational Church by the Rev. John P.R. Morgan. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
