Gary Richmond

Gary E. Richmond, 80, of Ottumwa died peacefully at home surrounded by his family at 1:43 a.m. September 11, 2018.

He was born July 17, 1938 in Kirksville, MO to Edeart L. and Mildred Gauer Richmond. He married Sherry Lynn Brown on December 17, 1971.

A 1957 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Gary served in the U.S. Navy, serving two tours in Vietnam. He worked 25 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring July 17, 1998.

He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, UAW Local #74 and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. Gary enjoyed golfing and bowling.

Gary is survived by his wife, Sherry; his sons, Father Troy Richmond of Muscatine and Shawn (Vicki) Richmond of Urbandale; 3 grandchildren, Aidan, Asher and Abel; 2 brothers, Robert (Kandis) Richmond of Ottumwa and Jerry Richmond of Novinger, MO.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Richmond.

Per his wishes, his body has been cremated.

Memorial mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Gary's son, Father Troy Richmond and Father Patrick Hilgendorf concelebrating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
The family will greet friends and family at Reece Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. A Christian Wake service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church or Good Samaritan Society-Hospice.
