Daughter of Joseph and Ruhamah (Williams) Chapline [married Oct. 22, 1741; she was the daughter of Rev. William Williams]. Married Capt. Alexander Thompson in Sharpsburg, Washington Co., MD on Sept. 12, 1775. Alexander died in 1815 and is buried in Sharpsburg.
Some time after Alexander's death, Ruhamah joined his brother, who was also her late sister Deborah's husband, Col. John Thompson, in Columbus, OH. While we have not yet located a marriage license, they were recognized as married by the state of Ohio. Ohio Source Records published an abstract of Ruhamah (Chapline) Thompson's will with the following note appended: "Note: This is the wife of Col. John Thompson, Revolutionary Soldier."
Her will was signed Oct. 3, 1836 and probated on March 17, 1837. All property was divided equally between Alexander and Ruhamah (Chapline) Thompson's two adult daughters, Sarah (Thompson) Armstrong and Mary Lacey (Thompson) Shepherd. Executor was Robert Armstrong (Sarah's husband).
Ruhamah was initially buried in the old North Graveyard, but the Green Lawn lot book and other local resources indicate she was removed to Green Lawn Cemetery, Section W, in 1875, and reinterred with her second husband, John Thompson.
Ruhamah's name is on a monument in Mountain View cemetery, in Sharpsburg, MD, where her first husband and family of origin are buried. You can find a more detailed and interesting bio here: Ruhamah Chapline Thompson, along with other family memorials.
