Morris Rafus, 83, of Lyme, N.H., a former well-known resident here for several years, died Friday at the Rockingham hospital, Bellows Falls, where he had been admitted about four weeks ago. The body was removed here Saturday to Covey's undertaking parlors. He was born in Vaughans, Nova Scotia, in February, 1860. He came to Wilmington nearly 45 years ago with his wife, the former Annie (Swinimer), also of Nova Scotia. He was employed by the Newton Bros. and at the Deerfield River Lumber Co. at Mountain Mills as lumberman and manager of log drives. He moved to Lyme a few years ago but was a frequent visitor here. Besides his wife he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Loren Dexter of Bellows Falls; and four sons, Earl M. Rafus of Wilmington, Henry Rafus of Greensboro, N.C., Frank Rafus of Readsboro and Floyd Rafus of Halifax. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Mary Swinimer; and three brothers, Harry and James of Nova Scotia and Wallace Rafus of Boston; several nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at Covey's undertaking parlors at 2 p.m. Burial will take place in Riverview.
