James Calvin Blakeley, age 81, of Pearson Chapel, TX quietly passed away early Friday morning, August 31st 2018 at the Hospice of the Pines in Lufkin, TX. Born December 6, 1936 in Lovelady Tx, James was one of six children born to Helen Marie Jackson and Claude Wesley Blakeley and an older half-sister born to Helen and Doyle Tolbert.
Raised in Lovelady, TX, until the age of 18, James’ passions were simply being in the woods, trapping, bow/gun hunting, pranks, playing the guitar, singing and just making people laugh and feel good with his quick-witted humor and captivating smile.

As a teenager, James would sing on the radio at Crockett’s radio station KIVY and even performed on two live television shows. In 1955 at the age of 18, James moved to Houston to begin his career as a tool & die machinist. He returned home every weekend to be with his family and with the love of his life, Wilma Jean Coon of Pearson Chapel. They were married in 1956 and formally began their journey in Houston but never forgot their roots and returned to Lovelady seemingly every weekend.
After 35 years with Texas Instruments, James retired in 1996 at the age of 60 and immediately began making plans to build their retirement home in Pearson Chapel. Completed in November 1997, they moved in and began the next chapter in their lives. Unfortunately, Wilma passed away in 2000 but after some time James was able to move forward and found joy once again with the support of his children, sisters, friends and through his life-long passions.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Jean Coon Blakeley; parents, Claude and Helen Blakeley; brother, Coy Blakeley; sister, Louise Speaker.
Funeral services for James Calvin Blakeley will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 3, 2018 in the Lovelady First Baptist Church, Lovelady, TX. Interment to follow in the Lovelady Antioch Cemetery.
