Dr. Jess A. Pennington, Jr., 79, a dentist, died of a heart attack Thursday in his Edgewood home. Dr. Pennington had maintained a dental practice in Pittsburgh since 1935. He was a member of the Pa. Dental Association, the America Dental Association and the Ontological Society of Western Pa. He was a member and past president of the Academy of Dentistry of Pittsburgh and past president of the Dental Alumni Association of the University of Pittsburgh. He served as a lieutenant in the Army in the European theater of operations from 1941 to 1945. Dr. Pennington served two terms on Edgewood Borough Council. He was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Edgewood and a member of Sojourner's Lodge 693 F&AM. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn, two daughters, Lynne Miles of Orinda, Calif., and Pam Guthrie of Emporium, Cameron County, and four granddaughters, Services are private. Arrangements are by H. Samson, Inc. of Oakland.
