Leland Max Coleman, age 94, of Hazel Dell, IL passed away at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at his home. He was born May 21, 1924 in Casey, IL, the son of Al Coleman and Goldie Marie Anderson Coleman. On February 23, 1943 he married Mildred Louise Matheny in Casey, IL. She passed away on November 9, 2011.

Survivors include sons, Roy Coleman (Betty Jean) of Yale, IL; Lester Coleman of Casey, IL; Max L. Coleman (Jeanette) of Shelbyville, IL; Richard Coleman (Barb) of Casey, IL; daughters, Mary Martin (Wayne) of Springerton, IL, Nancy Culler (Harold) of Hazel Dell, IL and Betty Nidey of Casey, IL; son in law, Larry Beauchamp of Robinson, IL; sisters, Betty Birchfield of Casey, IL and Rosemary Richardson of FL; 28 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughters, Susan Coleman and Rosalie Beauchamp; granddaughters, Amy Diane Martin and Lisa Martin; daughter in law, Mary E. Whitesell Coleman; son in law, Jerry Nidey; brothers, Donald Coleman and Robert Lee Coleman; half-brother, Eugene Phillips and sisters, Pauline Todd, Leona Johnson Watters and Frieda Margaret Coleman.

Max was a US Army WWII veteran, serving his country from 1943-1946. He was a lifetime member of the Casey VFW and Hazel Dell American Legion. Max was affectionately known as the “Mayor of Hazel Dell.” He worked for the Casey Police Department for many years. Previously he worked in the local oilfields and construction through the labor union in Charleston, IL.

Funeral services and burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Hazel Dell South Cemetery, Hazel Dell, IL with Rev. Danny Harper officiating. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Hazel Dell American Legion, Casey VFW and Martinsville American Legion.

Memorial donations may be made to Hazel Dell Church of God, 124 W. Main St., Hazel Dell, IL 62428.
