Eugene L. Phillips, 82, of 500 E. Washington Street, Casey, died at 10:17 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 1998 at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Charleston.

Funeral services were held today, Monday, October 5, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. at the Markwell & Son Funeral Home in Casey with the Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Burial was in the Washington Street Cemetery in Casey. Graveside Military Rites were held by the Casey VFW Post #5762, and the Hazel Dell American Legion #1230. A visitation service was held on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers for the funeral were Dean Benne, Ed Roger, Jerry Smith, Richard Smith, Bryan Smith, James Smith, Bill Carlen and Charles Tyler.

Eugene Phillips was born March 28, 1916 in Casey, the son of Roscoe Phillips and Goldie Marie Anderson. He married Aileen F. Duvall on September 5, 1936 in Newton, Ill. She preceded him in death on August 12, 1981. He later married Dorothy Ann Cox Goffs in 1983.
