Mrs. Alexandra Bakas, 100, of River Vale, formerly of New York, N.Y. passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late Costas Bakas and devoted mother of Catherine Drakakis and Effie Halperin. Loving grandmother of Alexandra and Jonathan, and adored mother-in-law of Constantine Drakakis. Born in Domvrena, Greece, she immigrated to New York City with her family in 1953 and lived in Bergen County. She worked briefly in the garment industry while raising a family and tending to the needs of many relatives she brought from Greece. She will be remembered for her unbelievable strength, compassion and infinite curiosity about the world around her. Alexandra was a parishioner of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Wyckoff. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 27 from 11 am to 12 noon at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 467 Grandview Avenue, Wyckoff, with the Funeral Service to follow. Interment will be in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus
