LUXEMBURG NEWS, Friday, January 25, 1918: Aged Man At Rest - Carl Retzlaff Died At Home Of Son, Julius In Village Saturday - Many Here Attend Funeral - Funeral Held From Grace Lutheran Church at Green Bay Tuesday Afternoon
Carl Retzlaff, an aged resident of the village of Luxemburg died at the home of his son, Julius last Saturday afternoon at two o'clock at the age of eighty years, five months and twenty seven days. Death being caused by old age.
Mr. Retzlaff was born in Germany and grew to manhood and was married to Austina Radue. Later coming to this country they moved onto a farm in the town of Luxemburg where he tilled and farmed up to twelve years ago when he retired and moved to this village where he has since made his home. His wife died three years ago and was buried at Green Bay.
Six children survive the deceased. They are: Mrs. Bertha Gesse of Green Bay, Mrs. Amelia Kreonig of Stratford, Gustave Retzlaff of Luxemburg, Mrs. Gusta Lhost of Oshkosh, Julius Retzlaff of Luxemburg and Mrs. Leda Kreonig of Finwood. Thirty eight grand children also survive the aged man.
The body was taken to Green Bay Tuesday morning and the funeral was held at the Grace Lutheran church at two o'clock in the afternoon. The Rev. Gest officiated at the last rites. The body was laid to rest in the Woodlawn cemetery in that city.
Among those from here who went to Green Bay to attend the funeral were: Gus Retzlaff and son, Albert, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Retzlaff, Wm. Hafemann, R. Okrusch, Wm. Luedtke, Frank Miesler and Frank Kuester.
