Capt. John Levake, veteran of the War of 1812 who was paid for his service with land in Wyoming township, came with his wife, Lydia and their son Oscar Farnsworth Levake and his wife Eliza Clark,to Iowa County during the fall of 1850 to claim the land. However Capt. John (then 69 years old) became ill and died.

Lydia applied for bounty land in 1851, with details about her husband's service and death, her maiden name & marriage date.
