Aubrey was born in Lorena, Texas, to the late Charles Daniel and Ruth Blackmon Richards. He married Rose Lee Schutza on Feb. 8, 1941, in Fort Worth, Texas. Shortly thereafter, he joined the U.S. Army and served in the South Pacific in World War II. After 22 years in the U.S. Air Force, he retired in 1966 when James Connally Air Force Base closed. His post-military career included employment with General Dynamics and Marathon Battery in Waco. Many people will remember Aubrey's dedication to coaching youngsters in Little League and Pony League baseball. He was also known for his generous nature in that he would many times pay their fees and for their uniforms so they could participate. Aubrey's true passion in life (other than his family) was golf! He worked part-time for years at Lake Air Driving Range and spent most of his weekends playing golf with buddies at Connally Golf Course. When golf wasn't beckoning, Aubrey could be found working his flower beds or watching the Dallas Cowboys play.
Preceding him in death was a son, Ronald Richards; granddaughter, Traci Ray; brothers, C.D., Pat and R.C. Richards; and sisters, Cleo Rampy, Myrtle Buice and Ruby Reeves.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 66 years, Rose Lee Richards of Waco; sons, Aubrey Richards Jr. and wife, Virginia of Clifton, James Richards of Waco and Johnny Richards and wife, Rosa of Houston; daughter, Barbara Richards of Hewitt; brother, Robert Richards of Fort Worth; sister, Kathryn Battle of Waco; grandchildren, Megan, Greg, J.J., Joshua, Jenny, Mark, Mia and Jill; and 10 great-grandchildren.
