Katy is the daughter of Felix Newton Ferrell & Nancy Bly Johnson Ferrell. She married Charles Otto Bowles on 1-28-1890 at Boise, Idaho.

Katie Bowles, 84, Rites Held Sunday

Mrs. Katie Bowles, 84, a resident of the Kooskia area for more than 50 years, died Friday at the Arcadian Nursing home at Greer, where she had been a patient the last three years. A broken leg suffered in a fall, two months ago, was the immediate cause of death.

She was born April 17, 1872, at Rocky Hill, Kentucky, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Newton Farrell. She moved with her parents to Wichita, Kansas in 1879. In 1889 they crossed the plains in a covered wagon, arriving at Boise, Sept. 1, 1889. There she was married to Charles Bowles, Jan. 28, 1890.

Mr. and Mrs. Bowles moved to Kooskia July 2, 1905 and homesteaded on Kidder Ridge near Kooskia. Nine children were born to them, six of which survive.

They retired in 1940 and moved to Kooskia where Mr. Bowles died Jan. 26, 1944.

Mrs. Bowles had been a member of the Kooskia Rebekah lodge since 1920.

Survivors include four sons and two daughters -- Ed and Frank Bowles, Kooskia; Arthur Bowles, Lewiston, and Charles Bowles, Pendleton, Ore.; Mrs. Wesley Harsey and Mrs. Fred Crapo, both of Klamath Falls, Ore. She also leaves a brother, Fay Farrell, Klamath Falls, and four sisters -- Mrs. Stella Bowles, Wenatchee; Mrs. Nellie Hanson, Fruitland, Idaho; Mrs. Anna Bershears, Portland, and Mrs. Zola Conrad, Boise.

Funeral services were held Sunday at Trenary's Funeral chapel, Kooskia, with the Rev. John F. Rice, of Grangeville, officiating.

Mrs. Ed Gilroy and Mrs. Miles Engle sang hymns, accompanied by Mrs. Elmer Parsell.

Pallbearers were Frank Bowles, Jr., Ed Bowles, Jr., Burrill Bowles, Doyle Pfefferkorn and Vernon Agee. The Kooskia Rebekahs conducted graveside services.

Burial was in Pine Grove cemetery, Kooskia.(Idaho County Free Press, Grangeville, Idaho, Thursday, January 10, 1957)
