Jane was the widow of Edgar Gale, a prominent member of the Columbus, OH, community and former Adjutant General of Ohio. He died of cholera in 1849.

He was the first president of the Wenona fair, and his son, John A., served one term in the Legislature, was a long time supervisor of this township, and president and chief owner of the Wenona Bank."
