Joe was born on 20 May 1942 in Wickenburg, AZ and went home to the Lord on 11 July 2018 with family holding his hands in Olympia, WA.
He was #9 from the top of a family that would grow to 12 children - 7 girls and 5 boys.
Joe grew up in the Fresno/San Jose area prior to enlisting in the Air Force in 1962. He attended a dance at the Sacramento USO and met his future wife - Maureen Tuohey. They were married on 16 Nov 1963 - the weekend before JFK was killed.
Lack of job opportunities in the Sacramento area lead them to WA state where Joe was employed by Associated Grocers in Seattle. He retired in 2003 and was a proud member of Local 174 Teamsters. Joe enlisted in the National Gaurd and retired from that in 1997. He made many lasting friendships.
Joe is survived by his soul mate and wife Maureen of 54 years, his daughter Arline (Robert) Scott, his son Gerald (Karen) Carter, six grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A younger brother Randolph, and two sisters, Louise (Jeff) Crawford and Joanne (Victor) Torres from the Fresno are also survive him.
Joe was a life member of VFW Post 11402.
Services will be held on 20 July 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lacy at 9am with viewing prior to the service. Reception to follow in the parish hall with burial at Forest Funeral Gardens at 1pm with full military honors.
Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Food Bank or the Wounded Warrior Program.
