Mrs. Johannah Essen, who has been in falling health for the past two years, died at the park View hospital at 8:30 o'clock Monday evening from an attack of broncho pneumonia. She was 58 years, 5 months and 8 days of age. Her husband, Hans Essen passed away last year.
Born at Medelop, Sweden on December 28, 1874, she immigrated to Isanti county with her parents, Mr. And Mrs. John Larson when she was 15 years old. She was a resident here for 37 years and lived in Minneapolis during the past six years. Both she and her husband were active workers in the affairs of the Athens Lutheran church in Athens township. They were blessed with eight children, six of whom still survive: Mrs. Albert Barcom, Mrs. Mabel Udine, and Florence Essen of Minneapolis. Gothard and Einar of Isanti, and Stannard of Minneapolis.
Other survivors are three grandchildren, two brothers: Albert of Florida and Elver of Washington; two sisters: Mrs. Carrie Swanson and Mrs. Charlie Solberg of Minneapolis; besides a host of friends.
Funeral services under the auspices of the Oleson Funeral parlors are being held this afternoon and later at the Athens Lutheran church, Rev. Andren officiating
