From The Times-News (Nephi, Utah) - Friday, June 28, 1918:
A gloom was cast over Nephi Wednesday morning when a telegram was received from the officer in command at Dover, New Jersey, conveying the sad news that Seymour Howell, of Nephi, had accidentally drowned Tuesday evening. The body will be brought to Nephi by military escort. It is expected to arrive here Sunday or Monday.
Seymour Howell had lived in Nephi the greater part of his life and was a graduate of the Nephi High School. He has always been an energetic young man and well respected in the community. When war was declared he was among the earliest to enlist in the cause of his county, being stationed for some time at Fort Douglas, later being moved to Eastern Cantonments.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Howell, who are living at Overton, Nevada, where they moved about two years ago on account of Mrs. Howell's health. Also, two brothers, Vern Howell who is in the Aviation service, and Harry Howell who lives in Nevada; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Chase and Mr. Lester Belliston, living in Nephi; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Howell also live in Nephi.

Friday, July 5, 1918: Th mortal remains of Seymour Howell arrived in Nephi yesterday having left New Jersey last Thursday morning. The train conveying the body was met at the depot here by many of the prominent citizens of Nephi. The funeral will take place today in the Tabernacle at 3 p.m.
