William Brandau, eldest son of Frederick and Anna K. (Hott) Brandau, was born April 17, 1857, at Baumbach, Germany. In April 1882, William Brandau arrived in America with his parents. On October 18, 1888, William Brandau was united in marriage to Mary Lohr of Osage, Iowa. She was the daughter of Conrad and Anna Marie Kneisel Lohr. They lived southwest of Osage in Cedar Township, Mitchell County on a farm in Section 15, which they purchased from her father.
Anna Mary Adolphine Lohr Brandau died of consumption on March 3, 1906. William F. Brandau was dragged to death by a team of horses on February 27, 1907. They are both buried in Eden Presbyterian Cemetery north of Rudd near both sets of their parents.

To William and Mary (Lohr) Brandau the following children were born, namely:
1. Alvina Catharina was born January 12, 1890.
She was married to John Wohlers.
2. Clara Amelia was born July 9, 1892.
She was married in June 1917; Clara was married to Edward Andreson of Nora Springs. On December 8, 1917 she died in Wichita, Kansas and is buried in Eden Cemetery in the same plot as her parents.
3. Laura Christina was born August 7, 1894.
Laura was married to Harry Schrader and lived in Rudd.
4. Ervin William was born June 25, 1896.
Ervin was married to Bernadette O'Brien.
5. Florence Esther was born June 30, 1904 and died November 13, 1909. She is buried in Eden Cemetery in her parents plot.
