Dennis Gene “Denny” Krohn, 75, of Pekin, Illinois and of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, passed away at 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at his home in Pekin.

Born May 12, 1943 in Pekin to John and Alberta Mae (Wilson) Krohn, he married Julie Sangalli on December 14, 1963 in Pekin. She survives.

Denny’s great pride was his children. His daughter, Carole Krohn of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, is an attorney and a resident teacher on the Artistic Staff of Central Illinois Ballet in Peoria. His son Brad Krohn, is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and is a United States Tennis Association Professional in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Denny also leaves two brothers, Gary Krohn of Sioux City, Iowa and Dr. Eric Krohn of North Carolina; one sister, Deborah Krohn of Aspen and Basalt, Colorado; a niece, Erin Lynn (Anthony Dickson) Krohn of Seattle, Washington and a nephew, John Michael Krohn of Manhattan, Kansas.

His parents preceded him in death.

Denny was a 1961 graduate of Pekin Community High School. He attended Western Illinois University where he was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. He graduated cum laude from Bradley University in 1966 with a Master of Science Degree in Mathematics.

He began his career at Caterpillar, Inc. in 1964, where he remained until retiring in 2001. He was the Lead Design Engineer who had been awarded several United States Patents for his work in connection with the development of Caterpillar’s first small engine line. Upon the death of Julie’s father in the 1980’s, Julie and Denny assumed the responsibility of operating Sangalli Nursery in Pekin. Denny derived great joy from his ongoing and constant work to continue to maintain the grounds at the Nursery.

Denny will be remembered as a person who was extremely kindhearted, fair and highly ethical in all of his personal and professional relationships. He was generous with his gift of sound judgment and gave wonderful advice to those who asked from him. He loved being outdoors and vacationing at the family home in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. He was a longtime member of Pekin Country Club.

Private family services are planned. Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin is assisting the family with his arrangements.

Denny often said, “If I could adopt and care for every stray cat in this world, I would do that.” He did not adopt them all, but he rescued and loved so many. Therefore, if you would like to honor Denny, please consider making a memorial contribution in his name with Tazewell Animal Protective Society, 100 Taps Lane, Pekin, IL 61554.
