Louie was born on the family farm in Alexis to the late August and Ella Sherrill Abernathy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Geraldine Greene Abernathy and his 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

Louie had three careers, Textiles, chickens and Southern Fab working until age 80 when he retired. Spending time working in Lowell, Cramerton, Cary and Marion, NC, Marion, SC, Columbus and Hartwell in Georgia, and Littlefield, Texas; finally settling in Wadesboro, NC for the last 36 years. His main passion was Jesus Christ and his service as a deacon in 8 different churches and as an Gideon for the last 35 years. His ability to connect to people of all ages and his love of Christ gave him a boldness to witness in many situations. Louie was a US Army veteran who honorably served during WWII.

Left to cherish his memories includes his sons, Tony Allen Abernathy and Danny Louie Abernathy both of Wadesboro; and a daughter, Patricia Edna Yaegle of Dahlonega, Georgia; 9 grandchildren, Tony, Jr., Tara, Charles, Micah, Kristopher, Heather, Matthew, Janet and Elizabeth; 10 great grandchildren, Rhrett, Stella, William, Adam, Alex, Stephanie, Ian, Jaylyn, Ivy, Malenna; and 2 great-great grandchildren, Paxton and Branson.

Graveside Service:Hillcrest Gardens, Dogwood Section with Reverend Dr. Robert Hunter officiating. Military honors provided by the Gaston County Honor Guard.
