Rita A. Thompson, age 89, of Brandenburg, KY, passed away on Friday, July 20, 2018, at her residence. Mrs. Thompson was born March 9, 1929, the daughter of Harvey E. and Emma Mae Flaherty Adkisson.

She was an active member of St. John the Apostle Parish; a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution; and a Kentucky Colonel. Rita authored several books including genealogy and the history of cemeteries in Meade County. She actively had researched her ancestors in Ireland and she loved to travel.

Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Philip Gerard Thompson; two grandsons, John T. and Michael K. Thompson; and four brothers, Bill, George, Glenn and James Harold Adkisson.

She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Charles R. Thompson; four children, Charles Michael Thompson, Battletown, KY, Glen Patrick (Wendi) Thompson, Corydon, IN, Thomas Daniel (Debbie) Thompson, Brandenburg, KY, John Kevin (John Boston) Thompson, Louisville, KY; five grandchildren, David, Josh, Jenny and Summer Thompson, and Jammie (Charlie) Allgeier; and two great grandchildren, Garret and Caleb Greenwell.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 23, 2018, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, with Rev. Kevin Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in St. George Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 4:00 PM on Sunday, and at the church from 8:00 AM until the time of mass on Monday.
