~~~My Grandma~~~
Margie was born in Missouri, the daughter of Thomas Jefferson McDonald and Ada Leota Lewis. She was the fifth of nine children. She married Eugene Owen McCown and they had four children. Sadly, just a few years after they were married, Eugene was killed in an automobile accident while on his way to see her and their baby who was just born the day before.
About two years later, Margie fell in love with and married Everett Lewis White. She spent the rest of her life with him. It was rare to ever see one of them without the other. They did everything together and shared a special love and respect for one another that is rarely seen today.
Margie was one of the best cooks in the area and everyone loved her homemade dinner rolls and special dressing she made for family dinners. Though everything she cooked was good, no one else could come close to making a dinner roll that was as good as hers.
Margie enjoyed a variety of activities that included but were not limited to bowling, mushroom hunting in the spring, playing cards with her friends and listening to her husband play music. She also loved to entertain and was always hosting big buffet style dinners, hog roasts and fish fries for her family and neighbors.
She really liked to cook and make sure people enjoyed their food. If she ever saw someone going without dessert, she would ask why. If they said they were on a diet, she would always say, "Oh, one piece of pie won't hurt you!"
When she found out she had cancer, Margie didn't want to suffer for years like her siblings did. She decided she would not undergo radiation or chemotherapy. Within three weeks, she was only clinging to life by sheer will. Her children and husband gathered around her and told her they loved her and that it was okay for her to go. She gave up her fight and died a few minutes later.
She was buried in Laurel Oak Cemetery in Windsor, Missouri near her parents and several of her sisters. She was survived by her husband, Everett; 4 children; 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
