Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2007, in First United Methodist Church in Tuscola with Reverend Bill Alexander officiating, assisted by Larry Brookreson. Thelma, a third generation Texan, was born June 4, 1909, in the Lake Abilene Community at Puckett Springs to John W. and Fannie Hill Collins. She was proud of her early Taylor County ancestry as her great-grandparents were the J.M.C. Knights. Their log cabin, the first in Taylor County, is now in the Buffalo Gap Historical Village. Levi F. Collins, her grandfather, was a circuit rider preacher, establishing several Methodist Churches in Taylor County and West Texas. Her great-grandfather, Reverend Robert Henry Hill came to Texas in 1839, and was an early Methodist Circuit Rider in the Victoria - Goliad area.

On April 29, 1925, Thelma married Bernice Kincaid Brookreson in Buffalo Gap. The couple settled on a stock farm in the Lake Abilene Community in 1938 on land that has been in the family for more than 130 years. Following her husband's death, she moved to Georgetown to be near her children. A wonderful homemaker, she loved gardening, sewing and cooking, making the best "Granny Cobblers," cookies and desserts for all her grandchildren and loved ones. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Tuscola.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband of 69 years, Bernice Brookreson; three brothers, Roy, Tom and L. H. Collins; one sister, Ida Martin; a grandson, Don Brookreson; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Brookreson; and a great-granddaughter, Victoria Sisson.

Survivors include one son, Paul Brookreson of Killeen; three daughters, Norma Davidson and husband Steve of Indialantic, Florida, Nita Beard and husband Bob of Georgetown, and Fannie Vaughn and husband Gary of Abilene; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 205, Tuscola, Texas 79562.
