MRS. MARY L. VAUGHT

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary L. Vaught, who was stricken with paralysis while at the home of her step-son, John Vaught, east of this city, will be held at the Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian church near Franklin at ten o’clock Sunday morning and the interment will be made in Greenlawn cemetery at Franklin.

Mrs. Vaught came here to attend the funeral of her step-son, Benjamin Vaught, and afterward visited at the home of John Vaught, where the fatal stroke was suffered. Her death occurred Thursday evening at the home of John Z. Holcomb, east of Franklin. Speaking of Mrs. Vaught’s life the Franklin Star says:

“Mrs. Vaught was born in Franklin, March 13, 1839. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Alexander. She spent her girlhood here and in the early fifties was married to Jerry M. Vaught, who was successful as a local lumber and planing mill man. Three sons, all of whom are still living, were born to them. A daughter died in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. Vaught lived in Franklin until the former’s death in 1869. Then with her sons Mrs. Vaught moved to Decatur, Ill, where she made her permanent home, altho she visited frequently with Johnson county relatives, especially with Mrs. John Z. Holcomb, a cousin whom she always regarded as her own sister.

“Shortly after moving to Decatur, Mrs. Vaught affiliated with the Presbyterian church and lived a quiet, Christian life of devoted service to her family, church and friends. She was a splendid mother to her own sons and to two step-sons by her husband’s first marriage.”
