aka: Depew; Son of Isaac DePew and Margaret Williams, who had about 13 children, and who are buried at Leo Cemetery, Allen Co. IN.

m: Margaret Elizabeth Essig Jan 25 1844 at DeKalb Co IN. Margaret was dau of George Essig and Margaret Spangler. She is buried at Urich Cemetery, Henry Co MO.

(Alert: Hezekiah's widow remarried to John Smith about 1862 and had children Mary/Maria Belle Smith, and Jeremiah Smith. She and John divorced and she took back DePew as her surname, and raised Maria and Jeremiah as DePew, not Smith. They are with her in 1870, 1880 census as DePew, and appear in numerous family trees as children of Hezekiah.)

From 1919 History of Henry Co MO, Uel W. Lamkin, Historical Publishing Co pg 779 bio for Allen L. Depew:
"...Hezekiah and Margaret Elizabeth (Essig) Depew, both natives of Ohio, were married on January 25, 1844. Hezekiah Depew was the son of Isaac Depew, who was born in 1792, and his mother, Margaret Depew, was born in 1793. Hezekiah Depew came to Henry County for the purpose of making a home for his family in the latter fifties and located in Bogard township. He prospered in the county of his adoption and at the time of his death in 1859{*} he owned four hundred forty acres of land. The children born to Hezekiah and Margaret Depew were as follow: Mrs. Lovina Brooks, living in Canada; Allen L., of this review; Mrs. Elvira Jones, deceased; Mrs. Angeline Beach, deceased; Joseph, Bogard township; Andrew, deceased. The children attended the subscription schools of the home neighborhood. The nearest trading point was Sedalia. The Depew home was built of lumber hauled from Lexington. "
* per tombstone, Hezekiah died in 1858 not 1859, which was about a year after moving to Missouri.

Hezekiah was stabbed to death by his neighbor Charles H. Pemberton in Henry County. Mr. Pemberton was indicted for murder in the first degree on November 5, 1858 in Henry County. Although Mr. Pemberton spent a few years in jail, he was never executed for the killing. (Information courtesy of caren jackson)
